The Alliance Book Club: A Few of Our Favorite Reads

Every great leader knows that it is important to always be learning and growing. Whether that be from colleagues or other professionals in your industry, you can always be improving. Books can also be an amazing source of knowledge and the perfect way to grow yourself and your business. Because our group recognizes the power of learning, we have started a book club to meet and discuss different books every few weeks.

The Alliance has put together a list of books our group has read and recommends to other professionals looking to grow! Here are a few of the impactful books we have read over the past quarter:

Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink & Leif Babin: Extreme Ownership displays the similarities between leading military missions and companies. There is great overlap among the two showing that leadership is a series of traits that are applicable in all types of scenarios.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey: Stephen R. Covey created seven habits for people to have an effective and meaningful life. Similar to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, the first three habits that focus on the self must be adopted before adopting any of the others.

The Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris: The Four Hour Work Week argues that people can work as much or as little as they want as long as they take the necessary steps. Tim talks about how dynamic our economy has become, and how we are focused on output, rather hours worked.

Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi: If you want to learn how to be a super connector, read Never Eat Alone. Keith Ferrazzi discussed how to provide great value in relationships and how to stay top of mind for people in your network.

Each book provided different perspectives on corporations, clients, relationships, and values. We learned how leadership within the military is similar to leading a group professionally, how best to have a values-driven life, how to create a company and only work 4 hours a week, and the strongest way to manage relationships. The lessons taught in these books have been beneficial and helped our companies grow!
